I have been living away from New Zealand for almost 10 years and have spent the last few years in Los Angeles, alongside a lot of very talented Kiwi faces I am lucky enough to call my friends – including my producer Fleur Saville.
There is such an amazing depth of Kiwi (and Australian) talent thriving in the international entertainment hub of L.A, we wanted to find a way to share their stories with people back home, to talk about the pros, cons and difference of living in America, what people coming up after them may want to know, and the crazy moments that collided to bring them to this point in their lives.
Not only this, I wanted to create a different kind of experience. I wanted the interviews to be an intimate, candid and honest snapshot of these women that I know and love.
The goal was to create a series to inspire fellow New Zealanders to dream big by looking at what some of the most successful Kiwis have achieved, and in doing so, shine a little light on that ol’ Tall Poppy Syndrome we from Aotearoa know all too well.
The interviews were shot in my living room in LA, so forgive the microphone malfunctions and occasional beer or wine – all of which add to the feeling you are backstage, sitting room only, getting to know these wonderful public figures.
The project has been a labour of love, and would not have been possible without the tireless work, shot set up and editing of David de Lautour; the original music composed by Brett O’Gorman and design by Fred L’Ami. This website was designed by the incredible Laura Bray and finally, my wonderful producer Fleur Saville who gave this project the belief it needed to get off the ground. Everyone involved, behind and on camera, so generously gave their time because of their belief in the project and for this I will be eternally grateful.
I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have enjoyed bringing them to you.
Here’s to many more.
